Ecological Project

Based on our company philosophy, we have been working for many years to promote naturally-grown raw materials in an environment-friendly way. This also entailed converting existing Sri Lanka and India plantations into eco-friendly yet economically viable land utilization projects.

After two years of most intense preparation, the project starts in 1996. Pioneering this project was the MAL Group of Companies along with many other experts from different agricultural and research institutes.

The project aims at utilizing the land in an environment-friendly and ecomonical way. Eco-friendly cultivations with their nearly fully closed cycles help to protect the most valuable natural resources: soil, water and air.

To the founders of this project, it was important that reputable and recognized research institutes committed themselves to this project, too, to function as efficient and cost-conscious as possible. One of the main objectives was to change the existing soil into a living organism which could bring forth plants without any artificial fertilizer being applied to it.

E.g. in Sri Lanka, more than 70% of all latex and cocos harvested is produced by small farmers. Therefore, the project is indeed ideal for Sri Lanka and India, as it is easily set going by small farmers and not by big plantations!

In-depth discussions were, of course, needed to convince the farmers despite the reservations they had against the project. However, the different fruit-trees, vegetables and spices planted amongst the rubber trees to help bring forth a mixed cultivation, provided - as a side effect - an additional source of income to the farmers.

By purchasing our products you support the project as part of the income goes to this in order to support the farmers program.

Converting an existing plantation into an ecological plantation will take about two years. A new ecological rubber plantation will bring in the first return after approx. 6 - 7 years.

MAL Group of Companies are now converting the cocos and latex raw materials from conventional raw material to ecologically grown material and this is the first step of the ecological production.
